KATHMANDU, April 27: Buyers have started to rush to their nearest retail stores to purchase daily essentials citing the possible shortage and excessive price hike after the government enforced prohibitory order to be effective from Thursday. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies said there is adequate food in stock.
Urmila KC, assistance spokesperson of the ministry, said the ministry held a talk with the concerned traders about the status of food supplies. “Traders have assured that the available foods will be sufficient to meet the demand for more than four months,” she said.

According to KC, the government has stock of over 10,000 tons of rice and more than 145,000 tons of salt. Similarly, the government has 75,156 tons of sugar and 760 tons of wheat in stock. “In addition, the ministry has called for tender to purchase 50,000 quintals of rice and 30,000 quintals of wheat,” she added.
The ministry’s record shows that there is a stock of 32,845 quintals of rice in the depots of remote districts.
