Foreign ministry cautions people to be aware of fake assurance of employment in Thailand and Myanmar

KATHMANDU, July 29: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has urged everyone to be aware of false assurance and promises of lucrative employment in Thailand and Myanmar.


Issuing a press release on Friday, the MoFA urged all not to be swayed by the false assurance of lucrative jobs in the IT sector in Thailand and Myanmar. This comes after reports that several Nepalis were taken hostage in Kayin Province of Myanmar and forced to participate in illegal activities.

They were promised lucrative employment by taking hefty amounts. It is said that they were forced to involve themselves in activities that are prohibited by the Nepal government as per existing law.


Nepali nationals have been requested not to visit abroad on tourist visas while going for employment. A legal labor permit is essential to go abroad for a job, the MoFA cautioned.


According to the MoFA, the fraudsters had seized Nepalis passports to take them to Myanmar from Thailand in an illegal way.


The Nepalis falling victims to such fraud are requested to communicated at the emails [email protected]; [email protected]; or call at +66-869915554, +95-1-545880 and +95-1-557168. Similarly, they can contact the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok and the Embassy of Nepal in Yangon Myanmar, according to the MoFA.
