Forests are a means for country's prosperity: Minister Mahato

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Minister for Forests and Environment Birendra Prasad Mahato has said forests would be taken as a medium to contribute to the prosperity of the country. Stating that the total forest cover has been 45 percent of the total area of the country, he stressed the need for working on taking maximum benefits from forests for contributing to the country's prosperity.

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Minister for Forests and Environment Birendra Prasad Mahato has said forests would be taken as a medium to contribute to the prosperity of the country. Stating that the total forest cover has been 45 percent of the total area of the country, he stressed the need for working on taking maximum benefits from forests for contributing to the country's prosperity.


The minister was speaking at an event organized here today by Round Table Nepal. On the occasion, he praised Round Table Nepal for its contribution to maintaining greenery in the country.

He underscored the need for the government at all three levels to be responsible for maintaining and preserving the eco-environment. "Forty five percent of Nepal's total land is covered by forests. Forests should be made a reliable medium to contribute to the country's economic prosperity. All responsible bodies are coordinating in this regard. A new way should be followed to implement the slogan, 'Green Forests- Nepal's Wealth'," the Minister said.
