Former army chief Dharmapal Barsingh Thapa passes away

KATHMANDU, May 16: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Dharmapal Barsingh Thapa passed away.


According to the Nepali Army, he died today at the age of 85 while undergoing treatment at Birendra Hospital. He was suffering from a lung-related disease for a long time.

His family sources said that he would be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat today. Thapa was the army chief from 2052 to 2056.


During his tenure, the organization reform program of the Nepali Army was effectively implemented. He is survived by his three sons and a daughter.
