Former chief secretary Shakya passes away

KATHMANDU, April 18: Former chief secretary Tirthaman Shakya has passed away. He was 81.

KATHMANDU, April 18: Former chief secretary Tirthaman Shakya has passed away. He was 81.


Also a former chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Shakya breathed his last on Wednesday morning at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur. He was suffering from cancer.

He was also a former secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and involved in the drafting of several of Nepal's laws.


According to former secretary Gopinath Mainali, during his tenure at the Public Service Commission, he initiated many reforms in the recruitment system under his leadership.


He is survived by two daughters and two sons. His wife passed away just three months ago.
