KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Former King Gyanendra Shah has decided not to offer Tika to the general public on Vijaya Dashami this year.


Issuing a press statement on Saturday, the former monarch announced that he will not offer Tika to the general public this year.

The decision has been made in the view of avoiding large public gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.


The government had also urged the public to stay where they are and observe this year’s Dashain and Tihar festivals.


In normal times, not only the supporters of the monarchy but also the general public receive Tika and blessings from the former king and queen on Vijaya Dashami, the 10th day of the Dashain festival.
