Forty newly-built houses handed over to flood and landslide affected people

BENI, July 5: The Myagdi Overseas Nepali Association (MONA) International Executive Committee has handed over newly-built houses to 40 flood and landslide-affected families in Myagdi district.

BENI, July 5: The Myagdi Overseas Nepali Association (MONA) International Executive Committee has handed over newly-built houses to 40 flood and landslide-affected families in Myagdi district. 


These families include those who were displaced after their houses collapsed or were washed away or buried by landslides that occurred in the district last year.


The shelters were constructed at a cost of Rs 200 million. Integrated shelters were handed over to those families without land of their own and individual houses were handed over to the families having land of their own. Each house was constructed at the cost of Rs 500,000.

These shelters were constructed and handed over to the landslide affected families in coordination of the District Disaster Management Committee and the local governments, MONA International Executive Committee Chairman Om Narayan Jugjali said.


Four houses were handed over to the affected families in Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality on Sunday. The shelters constructed at five local levels had already been handed to the beneficiaries before this. 


During the six months' period, MONA constructed 14 shelters in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, 10 shelters in Malika and four shelters each at Mangala, Raghuganga and Annapurna Rural Municipalities and Beni municipality and handed them to the beneficiaries, according to Dala Sherpurja, member of the House Reconstruction Committee.


The resettlement campaign for the flood and landslide affected families started from Jhin of Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality-5 in January in a bid to alleviate the sufferings of the victims, MONA said in a statement.
