BUTWAL, May 17: Four Lawmakers representing Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) in Lumbini Province have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the party’s decision to suspend them from the position of lawmakers and the party.

Earlier, JSP had suspended four of its lawmakers taking oath of office and secrecy as ministers in the Shankar Pokharel-led cabinet in Lumbini Province. Those lawmakers had also signed a no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel jointly by Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) and JSP.

These lawmakers were relieved from their posts as lawmakers of the province after JSP removed them from the post of party’s lawmakers and general members.

Lawmaker Bijaya Bahadur Yadav, Santosh Pandey, Suman Sharma and Kalpana Pandey have filed a writ petition at the apex court demanding immediate suspension of the decision to remove them from the party and their position as lawmakers.

The petitioners have claimed that the decision of removing them from the party and the province assembly was invalid. “We were suspended from the position of lawmakers and the party without giving us a chance to clarify,” reads the writ petition.
