KATHMANDU, Dec 22: A group of lawmakers close to the rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR). Those registering the writ petition include NCP's Chief Whip of the dissolved HoR Dev Gurung.
The lawmakers have demanded the reinstatement of the HoR, arguing that the decision of Prime Minister K P Oli to dissolve the HoR had deprived them of representing people for five years as mandated during the election. They have argued that the decision was unconstitutional as the majority of the NCP lawmakers were against the decision to dissolve the HoR.

As many as 11 writ petitions have already been filed at the Supreme Court, demanding the apex court void the decision of Prime Minister Oli to dissolve the HoR. A preliminary hearing on those writs is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
Although the NCP rival faction had earlier decided to move the court along with the signatures of the majority of lawmakers of the NCP, only four lawmakers had reached the apex court to file the writ petition. Lawmakers Krishna Prasad Pokharel, Ram Kumari Jhakri, and Shashi Shrestha had accompanied Gurung to the apex court to file the writ petition.
