NEPALGUNJ, May 25: Four new people in Banke have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The swab samples of two males each from Rapti Sonari and Duduwa rural municipalities in the district tested positive for this virus at lab tests conducted at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences.
According to acting registrar of the academy, Kailash Prasad Dev, two males (aged 23 and 24) among 129 tested at Duduwa-2, Amritpurwa and other two males (aged 16 and 23) from Rapti Sonari-7 were diagnosed with this fatal disease.
Duduwa Rural Municipality has reported the first-ever case of COVID-19 infection, according to the chairman of the local unit, Narendra Kumar Chaudhary.

Both infected persons from Rapti Sonari are India-returnees, according to chairman of Ward 7, Ram Lakhan Tharu. “People are still arriving from India, adding fuel to the fire,” he added.
Of the eight local units in the district, Kohalpur Municipality, Baijanath and Janaki rural municipalities have not reported any COVID-19 case yet.
With this, Banke district alone has reported 146 cases of COVID-19, being the worst hit district in the country which shares its southern border with neighboring India. The district has also reported one death due to COVID-19. A 25-year-old man from Narainapur-5 died on May 17 after being infected by this deadly virus.
