Nepal launched the distribution of e-passports on December 1, 2021.

Now the passport server grapples with the storage issue and it is taking more time to accept photos and fingerprints of passport seekers. The department is itself trying to sort out the issue and some improvements have been made but the tissue is yet to be sorted out fully.

Following the technical disturbance in issuing e-passports, applicants have been urged to visit the Department once they receive a text/ message in their mobile phones.
