KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen's Organisation (GAESO) has demanded to start diplomatic initiative by forming a talks team as per the agreement reached among the Government of Nepal, the British government and the Organisation regarding the issue of discrimination on Gurkha army, and their facilities.

Organizing a press conference here today, GAESO demanded the government to take diplomatic initiative by forming talks committee as six months have passed after the British government was agreed to resolve problems by forming talks team within a month, confessing the discrimination against the Gurkha servicemen.

The British government on March 20, 2017, had agreed to form a technical committee to carry out a study regarding the demands of retired Gurkha army including pension.

The study committee had submitted its report to the governments of Nepal and Britain on March 22, 2018.

GAESO Chairperson Krishna Kumar Rai demanded that the government of Nepal should take diplomatic initiation to exert moral pressure even after forming talks team unilaterally as it has been too late despite the agreement to address the demands by forming talks team within a month.

The GAESO has launched one-month campaign to address its demands and formed 18-member Gurkha Movement Parliamentary Committee under coordination of parliamentarian Yogesh Bhattarai. There are around 20,000 Gurkha ex-servicemen in England. The GAESO has been demanding for the implementation of agreement to resolve the problems of around 6,000 ex-Gurkha army soldiers. RSS
