Lawmakers call on govt to address demands of loan sharking victims

KATHMANDU, March 30: Lawmakers have drawn the attention of the government to resolve problems facing victims of predatory lending at the earliest. 


Speaking at the zero hours of the National Assembly meeting on Thursday, lawmaker Jag Prasad Sharma urged the resolution of their problem through talks. He appreciated the government's initiatives to make related laws.

The government has criminalized predatory lending and put forward the procedure to amend the Criminal Code, 2074. 


Lawmaker Taraman Swar demanded that the government provide security and relief to those victims of an earthquake in Sudurpaschim. Many houses have been damaged in the quake that occurred on November 8. 


He also called for identifying the areas prone to an earthquake and provinding alternative accommodation for the victims. 


Similarly, Tulasa Kumari Dahal demanded the conservation of the Nepal National Library at Old Thimi in Bhaktapur stating that books in the library have started decaying for want of care.
