Gaurika sets new national record, fails to qualify for next round

KATHMANDU, July 28: Nepali national swimmer Gaurika Singh has set a new national record at Tokyo Olympics 2020 currently being held at Tokyo, Japan.

KATHMANDU, July 28: Nepali national swimmer Gaurika Singh has set a new national record at Tokyo Olympics 2020 currently being held at Tokyo, Japan.


Participating in the Women’s 100m Freestyle, Singh finished the course in 1.0011 second and set a new national record.

Earlier, Nepal’s national record for Women Swimming 100m Freestyle was 1.0062 minutes which was also set by Singh herself in 2019.


However, Gaurika has failed to qualify for the next round.


Singh was able to clinch four gold, two silver and three brunch medals in the 13th South Asian Games held in 2019. She had also represented Nepal at Rio Olympics 2016.


As many as five Nepali athletes participated in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
