KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The Department of Railways (DoR) has forwarded the process for the feasibility study of the Kathmandu-Birgunj Electric Railway Line.

DoR said that it has started the process for the feasibility study as the rail network is significant as the transportation from Birgunj-Kathmandu through passenger and freight trains will be   cheaper, secured, less time consuming and environment-friendly. Birgunj is a major trading point for Nepal as over 70 percent of its import and export are done through the border entry point.

Senior Divisional Engineer at DoR , Prakash Upadhyay said that it is mandatory to construct the Kathmandu-Birgunj Railway Line to connect Birgunj and Rasuwagadhi with the rail networks.

“The department is taking forward the construction of north-south rail networks at the time when the work for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Mechi-Mahakali Railway has already started,” he said.
