KATHMANDU, Oct 11: A case has been officially registered against four individuals, including Rahul Mahara, the son of Maoist Center leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, in connection with a gold smuggling case.
On Wednesday, the District Government Attorney Office in Kathmandu took the step of registering the case against these four accused. This legal action came following a recommendation from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, which implicated the individuals in organized criminal activities and customs evasion.

Mahesh Prasad Khatri, the official spokesperson for the District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu, made this information publicly known. In accordance with the CIB's recommendation, the case was registered against the following individuals: Resham Mahara, also known as Rahul Mahara; Lokendra Kumar Paudel; and Belgian citizens Dawa Tsering and Nima Tsering.
The CIB's investigation has singled out Rahul Mahara, along with Dawa Tsering, a Belgian national of Tibetan descent, and Lokendra Paudel, the driver for Chinese citizen Dawajin Wang, who is linked to gold smuggling activities. Notably, Dawa Tsering, who is the proprietor of Vienna Hotel, is presently in custody, awaiting trial due to his involvement in a separate case involving the seizure of 61 kg of gold by the Department of Revenue Investigation.
It's important to mention that the CIB has added one individual to their list of fugitives in connection with the vape-related gold smuggling case. Furthermore, the CIB has suggested that a compensation amounting to NPR 85.52 million be arranged in the vape case.
The initial incident transpired on December 25, 2022, when 9 kg of gold was illegally transported from Dubai, concealed within e-cigarettes as part of a plan jointly executed by Dawa Tsering and another Chinese citizen, Li Hasong.
