KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Google has introduced a new feature called ‘Stay in the loop’ that will alert users whenever their names will be mentioned on the internet.
This new alert service is an extension of Google Alerts service that has been around since 2003.
With Google Alerts, users can create alerts on certain keywords and the service will send automatic email notifications to users when it finds any news or information that matches the keywords. Though it’s used heavily by tech savvy journalists, the service hasn’t found mainstream popularity among regular Google users. So, ‘Stay in the loop’ is a perfect strategy to rejuvenate interest in Google Alerts.
Don’t panic, stay alert
To activate your ‘Stay in the loop’ feature follow these steps:
1. Login to your Google Account. Go to ‘My Activity’ page.
2. On the ‘My Activity’ page, click on the ‘Activities Control’ menu.
3. On the ‘Activities Control’ page, switch on ‘Web and App Activity’. This will allow Google to save your search activities on apps and browsers.
4. Now google your name.
5. Scroll down the bottom of the page to find ‘Stay in the loop’ widget. Click on it.
That will take you to the Google Alerts page from where you can create an email alert for your name. You can customize the service settings to restrict the amount of email alerts you want and also set your preferences based on type of source, language and region.
