GORKHA, August 10: An 11-year-old girl was subjected to repeated abuse from her own father for over two years. The incident came to light after the girl revealed her father’s acts to her aunt, who filed a complaint with the police.
Doctors and relatives were in shock to witness such a horrible incident faced by the girl at such a young age. “My father and uncle used to rape me,” the girl had told her aunt. Upon hearing the words, the aunt rushed to the police office to file a case against the young girl’s father and uncle, who are also her own brothers.
Sexual violence cases against male street children on the rise
The young girl revealed to the police that her own father raped her for almost two years while her uncle raped her last October. The two culprits have been arrested by the police on the charge of rape and further investigation is underway. “We are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident. The child had been keeping her suffering to herself due to fear,” DSP Prakash Dahal of the District Police Office, said.
Also, a 72-year-old senior citizen has been arrested on charge of raping a 5-year-old girl in Ajirkot Municipality of Gorkha on Monday. The young girl revealed to her mother that she was raped by the old man under the influence of alcohol, when nobody else was at home. According to DSP Dahal, the district court has extended the deadline for seven days to further investigate the case.
The incidents mentioned above were recorded within a span of one week. As many as 21 children fell victim to rape in the fiscal year 2020/21. According to police, there are 30 culprits in connection with 28 registered rape cases. Many of the rape victims are below the age of 18, while most of the culprits fall between the age of 18 to 25 years. There are five culprits who are between the age of 18 to 25 years, one between the age of 26 to 35 years and one between the age of 36 to 45. There are 20 culprits who are charged with rape case above the age of 18 in total.
The incidents related to rape in Gorkha have increased. As many as 25 cases of rape were registered in the year 2018/19, 13 in 2019/20 and 27 in 2020/2021. According to DSP Dahal, cases related to violence and rape are not actually increasing but have started to come to light.
