KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the medical colleges to address the demands of the medical students.
“The government will register a case against them if they fail to address the concerns of the students,” said Pokharel during a press conference in the capital on Monday morning.
Medical colleges refuse to refund overcharged fees
College owners, on the other hand, have been warning the government that they would close the colleges instead. They have claimed that the government's instruction is largely impractical.
Minister Pokharel urged Dr Govinda KC to end the ongoing hunger strike to help the government to facilitate the implementation of the laws.
“We are in the process of addressing the demands raised by Dr KC by implementing the recent decisions. Therefore, I'd like to request him to end the ongoing hunger strike as the country is now facing a serious issue of border encroachment,” he added.
Dr Kc started his 17th hunger strike on November 4. He was admitted to Dadeldhura District Hospital on Friday evening, after complaining of health problems.
