Govt in mood to halt election: Oli

SURKHET, March 18: Chairman of CPN-UML and former Prime Minster KP Sharma Oli has accused the government of plotting to halt the upcoming election in the name of the constitution amendment.

SURKHET, March 18: Chairman of CPN-UML and former Prime Minster KP Sharma Oli has accused the government of plotting to halt the upcoming election in the name of the constitution amendment.


He warned the government to face the consequences if it plans to suspend the local level election slated for May 14. Speaking at a mass meet in Surkhet on Saturday, he urged the government not to halt the election of the local level citing that it is very important and necessary for the country.


Arguing that the ruling parties are stepping back from the election at a time when the CPN-UML is gaining mass support, former Prime Minister Oli reiterated that his party will protest if the government tries to pull back from the decision of conducting the election.

Chairman Oli claimed that his party will secure the majority in the general election and will present the annual budget in the next fiscal year. He asserted that no any forces will stop CPN-UML from becoming the largest party in the upcoming all three elections.


He blamed the government for not taking a strong action against the Kanchanpur incident, which he termed as a 'shameful' for the sovereign citizen of the country.


In another context, Oli highlighted the importance of the border with the China for the prosperous Province 6.


Speaking at the same program, former Prime Minister and top leader of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal blamed the government for being reluctant to hold the election and urged the Pushpa Kamal Dahal –led government to step down if it fails to conduct the election.


General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel, leader Prakash Jwala and other leaders expressed their views in the contemporary issues of the country.
