Govt officials discuss projects under BRI

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: The high-ranking government officials have held discussions regarding the projects to receive assistance from China under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement. Nepal joined the BRI in May 2017.

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: The high-ranking government officials have held discussions regarding the projects to receive assistance from China under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement. Nepal joined the BRI in May 2017. 


A meeting of the Project Development and Facilitation Committee formed to implement the agreement on BRI assistance held discussions for the Kerung-Kathmandu Railway, Kerung-Rasuwagadhi-Galchhi Transnational Electricity Transmission Line and Sunsari Marin Diversion Irrigation Project, according to Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Baikuntha Aryal.

He said, "Intensive discussions were held in other projects to be proposed by the Government of Nepal. And, decision has been made to prioritize the projects giving maximum advantages to Nepal." 


Aryal said that Prime Minister's Economic Advisor Gyan Chandra Acharya addressed the top officials from Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport; Energy, Irrigation; Urban Development; Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Agriculture Development and stressed to construct projects that offer maximum advantages under the BRI assistance. 

Projects promoting expansion of relations and productivity should be developed, Aryal quoted Acharya as saying at the meeting. 


Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Shankar Prasad Adhikari directed the officials to submit the lists of projects within five days at the Ministry of Finance as the procedure of the BRI implementation was in ready position. RSS
