KATHMANDU, May 8: The government has restricted local level officials and employees from visiting foreign countries. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has issued a circular asking the officials and employees of the local governments not to go on foreign tours without getting approval.
The circular has instructed the local government officials to go on foreign visits only on the basis of necessity, stating that some of the programs of such foreign visits that have taken place before are not justified.

The ministry has also instructed the district coordination officers and the chief administrative officers of the municipalities not to seek approval for foreign visits except in urgent and relevant cases.
It is said in the circular issued by the ministry to consider the current economic sensitivity of the country, the end of the current financial year and the important time of budget preparation for the new financial year before making a decision about foreign travel. The circular has also warned that the ministry will take action against the officials if the relevance and authenticity of the foreign visits cannot be confirmed and false documents are prepared.
