KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The government is implementing vehicle tracking system (VTS) on the long-route public vehicles, which will help the authorities concerned to track speed and status of the vehicles being operated to distant locations.

According to the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), the system is being installed on passenger vehicles operating to Janakpur, Birgunj and Pokhara from Kathmandu in the first phase. Based on the success of the pilot project, the DoTM has planned to enforce the rule on all passenger vehicles operating on longer distance routes.

Issuing a public notice to this effect, the DoTM has called on 100 public vehicles to apply for installing the system. The app based system is expected to help minimize accidents and misconducts being practiced on a number of the public transports.

As of now, the government has been implementing a similar system only on cargo trucks to check the revenue leakage.
