KATHMANDU, May 4: Nepal Beverage & Cigarette Industries Association has urged the Nepal Government to allow beverage and cigarette suppliers to operate by easing some measures of lockdown.


Issuing a press release on Monday, the umbrella organization urged the government to allow beverage and cigarette industries and suppliers to operate at least a few hours. Not only the economy of the nation but also the daily life of beverage and cigarette suppliers have been hit hard by the lockdown and COVID-19 infections, the press release further reads.

Annually, beverage and cigarette Industries contribute more than 10 Billion Rupees to the national income and provide employment to more than 2 million people and because of the lockdown, millions are to lose their jobs which will directly affect the economy of the nation.


The association also drew the government’s attention towards the illegal production and distribution of liquor during the lockdown.
