KATHMANDU, July 23Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged Prime Minister KP Oli to adopt new strategies to tackle the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in view of the decision of the government to lift the lockdown from Tuesday midnight.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Oli in Baluwatar on Thursday morning, Deuba underscored the need for pursuing new strategies to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic as its threat continues to loom. The main opposition party president also urged the government to conduct COVID-19 tests only through the PCR method and ensure that all quarantine facilities meet the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The meeting between President Deuba and Prime Minister Oli comes after the government decided to lift the lockdown enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19 after 120 days. There are fears that the government’s decision could aggravate the COVID-19 risk among people.
