KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Suspended Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana has said that the government has prevented him from coming out of his residence by padlocking the main gate of his residence and deploying a huge number of police personnel outside his residence in Baluwatar. Rana, who was preparing to go to the Supreme Court, said that the government had locked his residence from outside and deployed a police unit.
With the news that suspended Chief Justice Rana has sent a notice to the Supreme Court that he is going to return to regular work without the completion of the impeachment proceedings against him, a large number of security personnel have also been deployed to prevent him from entering the Supreme Court.

On February 13 this year, 98 MPs filed an impeachment motion against Rana. Sub-section (6) of Article 101 of the Constitution and Sub-Rule 9 of Rule 161 of the House of Representatives Rules 2075 provide that the Chief Justice shall not be able to perform his duties after the impeachment proceedings have commenced.
An impeachment motion was filed against Rana on February 13, 2022. He was suspended as soon as the impeachment motion was registered against him in parliament. The impeachment inquiry committee of the House of Representatives investigated the impeachment against him.
Also, a majority of the committee members decided that Rana should be impeached. However, the term of the House of Representatives ended and the new election program started today. The term of the House of Representatives ended on Saturday midnight.
