Health Minister Basnet pledges visible changes in health sector in six months

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has said the citizens could feel reforms in the health sector within the next six months.

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has said the citizens could feel reforms in the health sector within the next six months.


Speaking at a program organized to mark 100 days of the Minister at his office on Friday, Minister Basnet announced that no Nepali citizens would be denied basic healthcare services. "No Nepali will have to suffer for want of medical care," he said, adding that all mismanagements in the health system would be cleared off and the citizens' right to basic healthcare services would be guaranteed.

On the occasion, Minister Basnet claimed that reforms concerning the citizen's access to quality services, social justice, policy- level improvement, good governance and the administrative reforms will be achieved during his time at the office.


Implementation of the provision of 10 percent free hospital beds for the poor ones and the formulation of the National Health Finance Strategy (2080-2090 BS) and the Nepal Health Sector Strategic Plan were outlined as major accomplishments of the health minister's 100 days at the office. He also said that his efforts to secure an additional Rs 10 billion budget for the health sector were also successful.


Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal  was the chief guest of the program.
