KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged one and all to observe precautions as cold has increased across the country including the Kathmandu Valley.
The health ministry's Spokesperson Dr Sanjay Kumar Thakur appealed to all to be alert considering the heightened risk of infections during the cold weather. As the mercury has been dipping continuously for the past some days, senior citizens, chronic patients, children, and expecting mothers are advised to observe special precautions.

The temperature in Kathmandu plummeted to as low as 7.6 degrees Celsius today, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The ministry has requested one and all to keep warm and protect themselves against the increasing cold.
Furthermore, the ministry has advised all to take warm food and water and suggested not to stay outdoors and in an open area for a long time. Proper ventilation be maintained while using heaters or geysers, the ministry said.
Considering the risk of infection due to contaminated water and food, the ministry has urged all to pay special attention to food intake. Washing hands before preparing and eating a meal is also recommended.
