JUMLA, June 8: Health workers said that they’d be forced to disrupt all health services in Jumla if the government failed to release their due salaries and incentives by the end of this month.

“If we don’t receive our wages and incentives by the end of this month, we will stop all health services as a last resort, including vaccination, delivery and emergency services,” Jagdish Nepali, coordinator at the Tila rural municipality said.

While the health post has to pay Rs. 15 million as salary, it has paid only a quarter of it.  Apart from salary, health workers are also yet to receive their allowances. The due amount includes Rs. 2.3 million as remote allowance, Rs. 360,000 as uniform allowance and Rs. 600,000 as inflation allowance. Of their total dues, health workers have been paid Rs. 796,000 as salary, Rs. 400,000; Rs. 150,000; Rs. 192,000 as remote, uniform and inflation allowances respectively.

“The shortage of fund is affecting us to make our daily ends meet,” Nepali said adding that six other rural municipalities and a municipality had the same plight.

There are around 200 health workers in the district. Nepali said that while they had requested the Ministry of Health and Population to release their payment through the District Treasury Comptroller Office, it had turned a deaf ear towards their plea.
