Hearing on murder case against Speaker Sapkota deferred again

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The hearing on the murder case against Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Sapkota, which was scheduled for today at the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court has been deferred once again.

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: The hearing on the murder case against Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Sapkota, which was scheduled for today at the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court has been deferred once again. The hearing which was initially called for March 14 has been postponed time and again.


Sapkota is accused of murdering one Arjun Lama of Kavre during the course of the decade-long Maoist armed conflict in the country. A case was filed against Sapkota by Lama’s wife Purnimaya Lama in 2008, accusing him of kidnapping lama and burying him alive.

After the case was not properly investigated by the police, Purnimaya filed a case at the Supreme Court on March 5, 2008. The case was under the supervision of the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court. 


After Sapkota became the Speaker of parliament, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi filed an application at the Supreme Court against his appointment. The constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana includes justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Hari Krishna Karki and Iswor Prasad Khatiwada.
