High-level commission formed to investigate Balkumari incident to start work from today

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The high-level commission formed by the government to investigate the Balkumari incident in Lalitpur is starting its work from today. Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma said that the commission formed under the coordination of former high court judge Shekhar Poudel will conduct the investigation for a month.

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The high-level commission formed by the government to investigate the Balkumari incident in Lalitpur is starting its work from today. Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma said that the commission formed under the coordination of former high court judge Shekhar Poudel will conduct the investigation for a month.


Minister Sharma said that the commission will study and analyze the human and material damage in the Balkumari incident, study the security weaknesses and prescribe the TOR recommending action to anyone found guilty and submit the report to the government after a month.

Former AIG Arun BC and joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Narayan Prasad Bhattarai are members of the commission led by Poudel.


Last Friday, two young men were killed when the police used excessive force in Balkumari, Lalitpur. The youths were protesting, demanding they be allowed to fill the EPS-Korean language test form.


Youths who failed the Korean language test for the job of shipbuilding demonstrated outside the EPS Korea branch in Gwarko, demanding that they should be able to fill the language test form for production work as well.
