High-level political mechanism meeting ends without any decision on presidential candidate

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The meeting of the high-level political mechanism of the ruling coalition has ended without reaching any conclusion on the alliance’s candidate for the new president of the country. Surya Kiran Sharma, a member of the Prime Minister's Secretariat, said although the meeting was called to discuss the presidential candidate, other contemporary issues were discussed instead.

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The meeting of the high-level political mechanism of the ruling coalition has ended without reaching any conclusion on the alliance’s candidate for the new president of the country. Surya Kiran Sharma, a member of the Prime Minister's Secretariat, said although the meeting was called to discuss the presidential candidate, other contemporary issues were discussed instead.


According to Sharma, in the meeting, the issues of Cabinet expansion, Chief Minister Rajendra Singh Rawal's failure to get a vote of confidence in the Sudurpaschim government and the release of Nagarik Unmukti Party leader Resham Chaudhary from jail were discussed during the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the issue of bringing the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which recently quit the government, back into the government.


JSP, Janamat and Nagarik Unmukti Party, which supported the government, did not participate in the meeting. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dahal, UML Chairman Oli, RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden.p Before the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal had held a separate meeting with Oli, who is also the coordinator of the political mechanism.
