KATHMANDU, July 23: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized the importance of immigration staff as the nation's first point of contact for visitors. During his inspection of the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Minister Lekhak described immigration personnel as the "face of the country."

Addressing the staff, he urged them to approach their duties with a sense of pride and warmth. “Tourists form their first impression of Nepal through you,” he said. “Work with the mindset that you are representing Nepal’s welcoming spirit. Be 'smart' and 'smiling' as you are the last Nepali people they see before leaving.”

The home minister also warned that any involvement in illegal activities related to arrivals and departures would be met with strict action. With rising concerns about human trafficking, he stressed the need for eradicating such practices from the airport.

Minister Lekhak called for a proposal within a month to amend the Immigration Bill and recalled his past initiative to establish a 'Labor Desk' at the Tribhuvan International Airport during his tenure as Labor Minister 16 years ago. He directed the Department to expedite the establishment of immigration offices in Tinkar, Darchula, and Korala, Mustang.
