Home Minister Thapa tests negative for COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The coronavirus test report of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has come negative. 


The minister and his security and political advisors tested negative for the virus, according to his press advisor Kiran Bhattarai. The tests followed on the basis of contact tracing after Province 2 Internal Affairs Minister Gyanendra Kumar Yadav tested positive for the virus.

Minister Thapa was in close contact with the province minister who had been earlier in Kathmandu and on July 29 attended a program which was also joined by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Thapa. 


After five days of the meeting, Yadav was diagnosed with the viral disease. People coming in close contact with him including the home minister were included in the testing. Home Minister Thapa’s throat swab sample was collected on Thursday. His security advisor Dr Indrajeet Rai and political advisor Surya Subedi have also tested negative. 


Prior to this, the test reports of Prime Minister Oli and other senior officials who were present in the same program with the province’s minister also came negative.
