Home ministry warns of legal action against people burning effigy of Indian PM

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has expressed deep concerns over the act of burning an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was done by the members of the student union affiliated with Madhav Kumar Nepal led-CPN (Unified Socialist) party.

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has expressed deep concerns over the act of burning an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was done by the members of the student union affiliated with Madhav Kumar Nepal led-CPN (Unified Socialist) party. The ministry issued a press release on Sunday, showing concerns over the ‘defaming’ of the Prime Minister of a neighboring country and staging protests against him. 


The ministry has warned to take legal action against anyone who tries to take the law into their hands and has announced to control such actions in the future.

“The government of Nepal is trying its best to improve its relationship with friendly countries and will not allow anyone to go against any foreing nation,” the press release read. “We urged everyone not to do anything that can hamper our relations with any country by staging agitation against their leaders.”


Earlier, some members of the student union affiliated to CPN (Unified Socialist) party staged protests and burned an effigy of Indian PM Narendra Modi, to protest against the incident in which Indian SSB men allegedly cut off the cable of an improvised cable crossing which a Nepali national, one Jaysing Dhami was using to cross the Mahakali River. 


Dhami, who fell into the river after the cable he was holding on to was cut allegedly by Indian SSB men, has been missing since then.
