House Dissolution Case: Defendants to debate on the case from today

KATHMANDU, June 28: Legal practitioners and government attorneys are scheduled to begin pleading in favor of the May 22’s House dissolution by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

KATHMANDU, June 28: Legal practitioners and government attorneys are scheduled to begin pleading in favor of the May 22’s House dissolution by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. 


The lawyers representing the writ petitioners concluded their debates on Sunday. Of the 15 hours allotted for both the sides, the petitioners now have three hours for a reply.

More than two dozen writ petitions have been lodged at the Supreme Court (SC) seeking the restoration of the lower House of parliament, which was dissolved for the second time in the past six months. 


The five-member constitutional bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana has been hearing the case for the past one month. Along with Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, the bench comprises justices Dipak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Aanad Mohan Bhattarai. 


After the legal practitioners pleading on behalf of the defendants including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Office of President finished their debate in the allotted 15 hours, the lawyers representing Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota will be provided an hour . 


Meanwhile, the amicus curiae has been allotted another two hours to present their opinion on the case.
