House Dissolution Case: Government attorneys begin pleading before constitutional bench

KATHMANDU, June 28: The government attorneys have begun pleading at the Supreme Court in favor of the House dissolution by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. Attorney General Ramesh Badal has started the debate. He has been given three hours. Former Attorney Generals Sushil Pant and Agni Prasad Kharel will also debate after the Attorney General Badal completes putting forth his arguments on behalf of the defendants.

Attorney General Ramesh Badal has started the debate. He has been given three hours. Former Attorney Generals Sushil Pant and Agni Prasad Kharel will also debate after the Attorney General Badal completes putting forth his arguments on behalf of the defendants.


On Sunday, the writ petition filed by 146 former MPs, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, was heard. The petitioner was given 12 hours. At the given time, 36 legal practitioners argued on behalf of the writ petitioner. The legal practitioners on the petitioner's side have demanded the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister.

Regular debates have started in the Constitutional Bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana and Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Anand Mohan Bhattarai since Wednesday. The government side, which has started the debate from today, has been alloted 15 hours. 


There were 30 writ petitions in the dispute seeking the restoration of the lower House of parliament, which was dissolved for the second time in the past six months.
