KATHMANDU, August 23: The Human Right and Peace Society (HURPES) has urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to immediately organize a virtual meeting with the heads of the governments of SAARC nations. A delegation of the HURPES made the call during their meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar on Monday.
The HURPES has maintained that Nepal as the current chair of SAARC should take initiative to bring together other SAARC member states to make a collective effort to rescue their respective citizens in view of the takeover made by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The HURPES has also drawn attention of the government on various issues including global warming, climate change and conservation of the Himalayas during the meeting. The organization urged the government to be a party to the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty to prohibit development, testing, manufacturing and storage of all kinds of nuclear weapons.
HURPES President Govinda Khanal, Advisor Homkanta Chaulagain, General Secretary Ram Krishna Baral, Treasurer Jaganath Pudasaini, Central Members Bishnu Bhusal and Ishwor Pudasaini and President of HURPES, Kathmandu Chapter, among others, were present during the meeting.
