KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has demanded that the government make a separate project for the Kapan-Budhanilkantha flood control work of the Dhobi river corridor.

General Secretary Thapa made this demand while addressing an interaction related to Kapan-Budhanilkantha flood control project of Dhobikhola Corridor proposed on Sunday. He said that all the plans should be worked through one project to control the flooding of Kapan-Budhanilkantha.

He also demanded that all the section works in the corridor area should be brought under the project. He said that since he is the people's representative of the area, he was scolded the most when there was inundation. Thapa suggested making a master plan to protect the houses built in the corridor as hundreds of houses have been built on two and five annas of land.

He said, “All the works in the corridor area should come under the ongoing project. It may take a year to prepare the master plan of the project after it is passed by the Council of Ministers. As soon as there is inundation in the area due to rain, I am the one to get scolded by the public.”

General Secretary Thapa said that the houses built in the corridor area are legal and since they have paid taxes to the state every year, the state  should think about how to protect the houses and not only bring the river back to its former state.
