IGP Khanal calls for coordination between federal and provincial police (with video)

KATHMANDU, June 27: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal has said that there is a need for a legal provision that allows federal police to give necessary instructions regarding sensitive issues such as national security to provincial police.

KATHMANDU, June 27: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal on Thursday said that there is a need for a legal provision that allows federal police to give necessary instructions regarding sensitive issues such as national security to provincial police.


IGP khanal laid an emphasis on such a legal provision in anticipation of a situation in which provinces that border on India might face security threats.

Speaking at the meeting of Parliamentary State Affairs Committee held to discuss the Bill on the adjustment of federal and provincial police forces, he added that provincial police need to coordinate with federal police in certain areas considering the security challenges of the country.


According to him, provinces with major cities such as Birgunj, Bhairawa and Biratnagar adjoining India will not be able to protect themselves without the support of federal police in a critical situation marked by security threats.
