JANAKPURDHAM, August 14: The Madhesh provincial government has organized a sit-in protest against the federal government as their demand for police adjustment has not been met. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Lalbabu Raut, the ministers of the provincial government and the members of the provincial assembly staged a sit-in in front of the residence of the provincial chief.
Although the constitution ensures that the responsibility of peace, security and police management of the province is within the authority of the provincial government, they have started a phased movement stating that the federal government is reluctant to provide the responsibility to the provincial governments.
Govt asks PSC to delay vacancy announcements
Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister Raut said that they had to start a protest against the federal government's hesitation regarding the transfer of rights mentioned in the constitution. He said that the delay in the implementation of the Police Adjustment Act, which had been certified by the President on February 11, 2020 raised doubts.
"We cannot imagine a government without police," he said. “The Federal Government introduced the Police Adjustment Act, but it has not been implemented.” He said that the attention of the top leaders of all the parties including the Prime Minister has been drawn for the adjustment of the police.
Similarly, Home and Communications Minister Bharat Prasad Shah, who is also the spokesperson for the province government, said that the demonstration which started from today will be held for a week from 11AM to 1PM.
