3,675 four-wheeled EVs imported in the first five months of current FY 2023/24

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: After the government implemented a policy to promote electric vehicles (EVs), their import has increased almost threefold.


According to the Department of Customs (DoC), in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2023/24, Nepal has imported 3,675 electric cars, jeeps, and vans with three different engine capacities, costing Rs 9.02 billion. In the same period last year, only 1,353 electric cars, jeeps, and vans were imported into Nepal.

In the first five months of the current fiscal year, the government collected Rs 3.92 billion in customs revenue from the import of electric cars.


According to the DOC, until mid-December, 1,595 electric cars with a lower range than 50 kW have been imported into Nepal, costing Rs 2.95 billion. Similarly, 2,028 electric cars with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW have been imported into Nepal, costing around Rs 5.81 billion, while 52 vans, cars, and jeeps in the segment below 200 kW, worth Rs 260 million, have been imported.
