MYAGDI, May 11: Voters who have their names on the voters’ list but do not have their voter ID cards will be able to cast their votes in the local level election going to be held on May 13. Arrangements have been made for them to cast their votes by showing the certificate of Nepali citizenship that matches with the voters list in case the voter’s ID is lost.

According to Chief Election Officer Tej Narayan Poudel, as the new voter ID cards have been distributed to the polling officials stationed at the polling stations for the local level election on Friday, people who have lost their voter’s ID cards or the cards are torn or destroyed in any other way can cast their votes by showing their citizenship certificates.

Amid rumors that voters without voter ID cards will not be able to cast their votes in the elections in Myagdi, Chief Election Officer Poudel said that he has instructed all polling officials to allow voters to cast their votes if their names match in the voters list and citizenship.

People have been expressing their concern with party candidates as well as at polling stations, over whether they can cast their votes or not in case they have lost their voters’ ID card. Similarly, new voters’ ID cards cannot be given to anyone except the family members of a household.

Likewise, the office of the Chief Election Officer has also requested the people to be cautious as it would create a big impact if the parties’ representatives get hold of the voter's ID cards affecting the voting process.
