IN PICS: State-owned Nepal Drugs Limited begins manufacturing sanitizers in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, April 10: In view of acute shortage of hand sanitizers in the domestic market amid COVID-19 outbreak fears, the Nepal Drugs Limited, a state-owned corporation, has started manufacturing alcohol-based sanitizers at its Babarmahal based factory.

Kathmandu, April 10: In view of acute shortage of hand sanitizers in the domestic market amid COVID-19 outbreak fears, the Nepal Drugs Limited, a state-owned corporation, has started manufacturing alcohol-based sanitizers at its Babarmahal based factory.


Physicians are also recommending its use as one of the preventive measures against COVID19 infection. This is the first time, NDL began manufacturing this product.

According to NDL General Manager Bijaya Shree Ratna Bajracharya, maximum of 20,000 bottles of sanitizer is produced a day. A bottle contains 100 ml, he shared. 


He also informed that a bottle of sanitizer is sold at Rs 175 on retail and Rs 150 on wholesale. “However, a liter of sanitizer is sold at Rs 1250 if one wants in larger amount,” he said adding that for that the customers should have their own container with themselves.


NDL also said that the product is manufactured based on the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).


A staff at the company, requesting for anonymity, said that the company is bearing huge loss. “As it is a state-owned company, it’d be good if other government hospitals and companies also purchase its products.”  According to him, imported sanitizer is currently being sold in the market.
