KATHMANDU, June 20: Members of the Greater Civic Movement (Brihat Nagarik Andolan) staged protests in front of the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday, against the decision of the Council of Ministers to acquit the hooligans who had attacked Prem Chalaune, an associate professor of Sociology at Tribhuvan University, on October 6, 2020.
The protesters displayed various banners and placards and demanded the university be made a violence-free institution. They also sought justice for Associate Professor Chalaune. The placards read, ‘Justice for Prem Chalaune’, ‘Maintain the rule of law’.

Earlier on Monday, police arrested Assistant Professor Chalaune and several other participants from a sit-in protest organized in the capital against the decision of the government to drop an attempted murder case against his attackers.
