In Pictures: Slum dwellers protest against HPCIDBC’s decision

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The landless squatters organized a demonstration in Maitighar in the capital on Thursday against the decision of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) to remove the squatter’s settlements from the banks of major rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The landless squatters organized a demonstration in Maitighar in the capital on Thursday against the decision of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) to remove the squatter’s settlements from the banks of major rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.


On November 11, HPCIDBC issued a notice stating that it had given 10 days time to remove the houses and other structures that are built illegally on the river banks.

The HPCIDBC said that if the river banks are not cleared within the given deadline, such structures will be demolished with the help of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and other relevant agencies. 


The landless squatters said they organized the demonstration to ensure the rights of landless squatters.
