In the past, the Speaker acted like a party worker: MP Suwal

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Prem Suwal, member of parliament (MP) of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, has commented that the role of the Speaker in the previous tenure was like that of a party worker.

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Prem Suwal, member of parliament (MP) of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, has commented that the role of the Speaker in the previous tenure was like that of a party worker.


He said this in Thursday's parliament meeting. "In the past, the Speaker's role was like that of a party worker," MP Suwal said.

Suwal said the Speaker's role should be neutral and clear. He said that the candidate for the Speaker should give his/her commitment.


MP Suwal mentioned that parliament should not be made a rubber stamp of the government. The Speaker will exercise democracy in the House of Representatives. It should be made a platform for intellectual discussion, he said.
