KATHMANDU, Dec 8: An Indian Army chopper carrying top defense officials including Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat crashed on Wednesday near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, according to the Indian Air Force.
The Indian Air Force in a tweet said an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the IAF tweeted.

According to Indian media reports, those onboard the ill-fated chopper include CDC Rawat, hiw wife Mudhulika Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder, Lieutenant Colonel Hajinder Singh, NK Gurusewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kr, L/Naik Vivek Kumar, L/Naik B Sai Teja and Hav Satpal.
Four bodies were recovered and three injured persons were rescued from IAF helicopter crash site in Tamil Nadu, said PTI quoting official sources.
