MORANG, Feb 12: Police have arrested an Indian citizen with more than Rs 10 million Nepali counterfeit notes from Inaruwa in Sunsari.


Mohammad Syed, 22, of Birpur, Bihar state, India, was arrested with counterfeit notes, Sunsari according to Police Chief SP Bipin Regmi.

According to him, the counterfeit notes were recovered on Sunday from the Bridge of Sunsari River located in Inaruwa municipality-4.


Stating that Rs 1,000 counterfeit notes worth Rs 18.25 million seized, SP Regmi said, “The vehicle bearing Indian number BR X 3429 from India was checked by the traffic police and was found suspicious. During the search, counterfeit notes was found hidden in a bag in the back of the vehicle.”


Syed is the driver who was arrested, while another person in the vehicle escaped after the checking started.


The seized amount, the vehicle, and the driver are currently in custody, and an investigation is underway. The Sunsari police have announced that more information about the incident will be shared in a press conference this afternoon.
