KATHMANDU, July 12: National Assembly member Bamdev Gautam has claimed that the vacant posts of Deputy Speaker and Vice-chairperson of the Federal Parliament could not be filled due to the irresponsibility of the government and political parties.
Speaking at a special session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, Gautam said that the failure to elect a woman as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the vacant post of Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly was a matter of shame for the government and political parties.

He claimed that no one would wait for such a long time if the post of male member became vacant but it was a matter of sorrow that vacancies could not be filled in case of women members in the House of Representatives for four years and in the National Assembly for the last four months.
Gautam said that having women in both the posts of chairperson and vice-chairperson would not affect the spirit of the constitution. He said it was unfortunate that the government, political parties and parliament did not show interest in filling the vacancies.
